This is our first blog post for 2018, and we think this is such a great topic to start the year with. With all the celebrations and maybe a bit of over indulging on the holidays, we might feel a little guilty about it later on, but sometimes you’ve just gotta treat yo’self.
So we’ve come up with a few ways to get you back into the swing of things!
1. Cook more, eat out less
It’s so tempting and convenient to just press a button on your phone to order from your fave restaurant. This is okay once a week, but not every day of the week… It’s also a lot cheaper to make your own food at home and this way you know exactly what ingredients go into what you’re eating (make sure you include a lot of veggies and fruits!).
Don’t have enough time to cook a meal every night? One word, meal prep – you can even do this with a friend to make it more enjoyable! Set aside a few hours one day of the week and that’s all your meals sorted. Easy!
2. Actually do a workout that you enjoy
Sometimes workouts can actually be fun if you find something you love doing! Also try doing this with a friend, that way you can keep each other accountable and you get to spend time with them to hang out!
Write a list of exercises that you would love to try out. This could include pole dancing, ballet, yoga, pilates, HIIT etc.
3. Sleep more
I know we’ve talked about this a lot in previous blog posts, but getting in at least 8 hours sleep is the key to a healthy lifestyle. Sleep helps with immunity, appetite, memory, moods and your overall health.
Having trouble getting to sleep? Get rid of all your technology, have a cuppa tea, light a candle, run a bath and read a book (the old school way)!
4. Find time to meditate
This is another topic that we think is crucial! We all have busy lives, but you don’t even have to dedicate too much time to this and you can do it practically anywhere; just take a few slow deep breathes in and out. It will make you feel better in an instant. Guided meditation also works a treat – we love using headspace!
5. Surround yourself with positive people
So you’ve probably heard the saying that you’re the average of the five people you spend the most time with. There are those friends that can drain the energy and positivity out of you… just like donuts, they’re a sometimes thing or something you don’t have at all. But then there are those who make you want to be a better person, don’t bring you down and are supportive of everything you do.
Next time you’re out with a friend, ask yourself questions like: Do they bring out the best in you? How do you feel after catching up with them? Are they supportive?
These are just a few simple tips to start your year right, let us know if these tips worked or if there are tips that you swear by :)
